Starting a blog? Read this first.

Many people, and companies, want to create blogs. That’s great; I like news, information, and the occasional ramble. However, what are you going to say that your visitors can’t find elsewhere, because chances are someone can do (and is) doing a better job of it anyways.

Here are three major thinking points and questions you need to ask yourself before starting a new blog, called the three Us:

  • Useful: will visitors find the information useful?
  • Unique: will visitors find the same information elsewhere?
  • Updated: will visitors view information that isn’t updated?

Additionally, can you dedicate the time and resources that are required to to maintain the blog?

If you answered yes to all of the above then develop a plan and launch that blog. If not, might it be better to just continue subscribing to other industry blogs and provide links / feeds for your visitors.

Remember: It’s worse to send visitors (potential customers) to a blog that’s not updated than no blog at all.
