Go into your analytics software, whatever that may be, and view hits on your 404 page. Segment by referrer and see what sites sites are linking to your site and throwing the 404. Visit those pages, find where the link is pointing to, then 301 redirect that link location to the homepage (or some other page). Or, better yet, ask the site owner to change the link url.
